Lazy Pictures

21 Jan

I’ve mentioned Baby Tay’s dress several times over the last few days. I held off on any pictures until I could post pics of the other dresses I made for the other two girls’ portraits. Then I decided that the girls’ dresses didn’t make sense unless you saw my son’s outfit. So I got a shot of it, too. But I took pictures of the portraits as they hung on the wall. I was too lazy to take them down and do it properly, so you get to see my lazy photography. At least I didn’t use my cell phone.

This adorable little number is 45-ish years old. The outfit, not the kid. My grandmother had all of her 6 kids sit for a formal portrait when they were 2 years old, and the tradition continued through the generations. Now her great-grandkids are having their pics taken at 2. My youngest uncle wore this outfit (black velvet and a fancy little shirt) and most of my male cousins wore it, as well as several of the great-grandsons. I loved it. The photographer and I decided to use antique-looking props. Worked out well, no?

So when it was time for #2’s picture, I searched high and low for an antique-looking dress. Didn’t find one I liked, so I found a pattern and made one.

Time for #3. Not only did I have to make another dress, I had to find another stuffy for her to have her tea party with.

Finally, #4. This is as far as I’ve gotten with her dress. I lucked out when I found the fabric. It took hours to find the right fabric for the other two girls’ dresses, but this fabric was there, beckoning me from two brand-new bolts sitting side by side. The green is actually a bit deeper. And notice that the flowers on the dress are right side up. I can take no credit for that, despite the fact that I’ve been sewing for 30 years. It was luck. I hadn’t even noticed there was a right side up until I was attaching the dress bodice to the skirt. Rookie mistake. At least it worked out well.

As for the stuffy for her pics, I’ve had him in waiting for months. I found him online and bought him back in August. She got him for her birthday this week. I’m not sure if she likes him or not, but I don’t care. I like him and I’m the one paying for the pictures.

I love that you’re so diligent with things that will matter over the long haul. And I don’t know how you manage to make it look like so much fun happens in the process but it’s a blast to have a glimpse of it! You’re an awesome mom and you have an awesome family.
